OnePlus 5: “The Flagship Killer”
OnePlus 5 – INTRODUCTION:
The OnePlus is one of the biggest Chinese phone brands. Every year, they release their flagship phones which they claim to be flagship killer. They think that their phones can beat flagship phones of top smartphone manufacturers of the world. In this phone review we will see if OnePlus 5 could prove to be a tough competitor for Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Apple’s Iphone 7. LG’s G6 is also a tough competitor to these flagship phones. The biggest thing that people hate about Chinese smartphone manufacturers is the low build quality and poor displays in their phones.
OnePlus was also found using poor displays in their previous flagship killers. OnePlus skipped the fourth model from their series and directly released fifth model because according to them OnePlus 3T was the fourth model. The OnePlus 3T was basically an upgraded version of OnePlus 3.
OnePlus 5 – BUILD:
OnePlus 5 is slimmer than it’s ancestors. On the backside of phone, there is a black logo of OnePlus. It’s looks are very much similar with looks of Apple’s Iphone 7. This phone is better and more beautiful than its ancestors. OnePlus also added dual cameras in this phone just like those in Huawei P10 and Iphone 7 plus. It’s edges are properly rounded off. The fingerprint reader is mounted in front of phone and is very easily reachable. It also includes a headphone jack which was removed from Apple’s Iphone 7. The backside of this phone is made from aluminium and is very comfortable as well as smooth. This smartphone is only only 7.25 mm thin. Due to light weight aluminium, the phone only weighs 153 gm.
OnePlus 5 – HARDWARE & SOFTWARE:
OnePlus 5 comes pre-installed with Android 7.1.1 (also known as Android Nougat) so that it can compete with latest flagship phones. The OnePlus used all top quality parts in this flagship killer. OnePlus 5 is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset which was also used in Samsung’s Galaxy S8. It consists of Octa-core processor divided into two Quad-core processors. The first quad-core processor is clocked at 2.45 GHz while the other is clocked at 1.9 GHz. The CPU clock speeds of OnePlus 5 are better than CPU clock speeds of Samsung’s Galaxy S8.
Adreno 540 GPU is used in this beast which was also used in Samsung’s Galaxy S8. 8 GB of RAM is installed in this phone which is really of no use because no application or game uses that much RAM but 8 GB of RAM can really help in multi-tasking without a hang. This phone also has 128 GB of internal storage which is quite enough but the bad part is that no SD-card is supported in this phone.
OnePlus 5 – DISPLAY:
The worst part of Chinese phones as discussed before is their poor display quality. Let’s see if OnePlus again followed the old Chinese phones trend of using poor displays in their phones. As far as I know, every Chinese smartphone comes with low quality displays. The display resolution of OnePlus 5 is only 1080P as compared to Samsung Galaxy S8’s 2k(1440P) display. The pixel density of OnePlus 5’s display is only 401 PPI(pixels-per-inch) which is considered very low as compared to Galaxy S8’s pixel density. The OnePlus 5’s screen is protected with corning gorilla glass 5 which is the same protection used in Samsung’s Galaxy S8. There are two things that can happen, either OnePlus will win due to low price or OnePlus will lose due to poor display.
OnePlus 5 – CAMERA:
Everybody knows that dual back camera is the future of smartphones. OnePlus 5 is equipped with dual 16 MP rear cameras. It also has dual LED flashes, so that you can enjoy your photos even in low-light. The rear cameras are capable of shooting videos in 4K, 1080P, and 720P resolutions with 30, 60, and 120 frames-per-second respectively. The front camera is capable of shooting videos in 1080P resolution.
OnePlus 5 – BATTERY:
One of the most important part of every smartphone is its battery. OnePlus offers 3300 mAh non-removable battery in their flagship killer. LG G6 also offers 3300 mAh Li-Po battery. I wonder when will the smartphones get higher mAh batteries like in tablets so that we can be entertained without any pause. The OnePlus 5’s battery can easily last more than 83 hours.
OnePlus 5 – CONCLUSION:
OnePlus 5 has all simple features which every smartphone has except radio. It is really a great phone but it would be awesome if it had a 2k resolution display with more sharpness and pixel density. This phone is priced at only 480$ for 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage version and 550$ for 8 GB RAM version with 128 GB of storage. It also has beautiful colors to choose from. 8 GB version only comes in black color. This phone is so much beautiful that everyone will immediately notice it.
